The pangolin is one of the world’s most unique animals. Sadly, they are also one of the most trafficked. Each year, tens of thousands of pangolins are poached for their scales and meat for traditional medicine and luxury food.

Globally, there are eight pangolin species spread throughout Africa and Asia, and while the demand in Asia drives poaching, populations on both continents are in serious decline.

For more than 30 years, we have demonstrated that safeguarding critical habitat is the most effective way to protect species, including pangolins. We work with local partners to develop projects aimed at securing vital habitat.

As a result, recent assessments have prompted concern from the International Union for Conservation of Nature: six of the eight species are listed as either Critically Endangered or Endangered.
