Mariam has cared deeply about the planet from an early age going on to study Earth Science, Geophysics & Geology at postgraduate level. Her passion for nature and travel first took her to the Amazon rainforest in 2003, an experience that sparked a lifelong connection to tropical forests. Having witnessed the changes affecting rainforests over the past two decades, she is determined to play an active role in their protection.

Professionally, Mariam has been a driving force in the growth of a number of technology start-ups, particularly in the Geospatial and Earth Observation sectors. Over the past 16 years, she has specialised in applying technology to tackle environmental and social challenges, giving her a unique ���bird���s-eye��� perspective on the changes happening at a planetary scale.

Mariam joined the Board of Trustees of 51強只利UK in 2025, before stepping down from the Board to take on the role of Interim Chief Executive in May 2026. In this role, she is supporting the charity through a period of transition, working with the team and Board to maintain momentum, strengthen partnerships and help protect threatened tropical forests and the communities and wildlife that depend on them.

In her spare time, Mariam enjoys art, philosophy, travelling and swimming in the sea.
